The Tulip Pick known locally as Tulpenpluk commemorates the importance of tulip cultivation for Antwerp. On April 22 visitors to the Belgian city are invited to a big gathering with family and friends in Berendrecht where they could enjoy a day full of exciting events for all ages. Some interesting highlights of the programme include singing the tulip song and learning the tulip dance, having fun in the children's village with climbing and drawing, a straw castle, a large sandpit and a craft corner.
What is more, there is the opportunity to make flower bouquet or arrangement with self-picked tulips – ten per visitor out of 170 000 in total. Riding in an authentic covered wagon through Berendrecht, the tulip trains will be taking you to and from the boat. Landing stage and the car park are also part of the festival decoration. Enthusiastic guides from Blidscap are waiting for you and a new workshop starts every half hour. There will be an educational side to the event: the Ecohuis will be providing information about green roofs, plants and composting. Just relax on the picnic meadow in the hammocks and loungers with a nice drink or snack in hand.
The event will take place on Monday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To get there, chose one of the following options:
- By boat from the Kattendijk dock in Antwerp. A tulip train will take you from the boat to the tulip meadow;
- By bike with a guide;
- By car via the A12. Berendrecht exit. Follow the arrows to the parking. Tulip train to the Tulip Pick or on foot (20 min walk).
- With bus 77.2 Stop Kleine Bredestraat. 800 meters on foot to the Tulip picking.
