The municipality of Bolesławiec together with the local museum of pottery will be given the opportunity to further promote a cultural tradition which is inalienable part of the history of the Polish city – ceramics production. Earlier this month, the authorities, together with a partner institution from Skien, Norway, were approved for funding for a project worth almost 20 million Polish zlotys (around 4.46 million euros) under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and the state budget.
The main objective: to include Bolesławiec into the international cooperation network of cities with ceramic traditions
Strengthening collaboration to promote cultural heritage
In this important endeavour the local authority and the Ceramics Museum in Bolesławiec will partner up with the Telemark Museum in Skien, Norway. The ultimate goal of the project is to include two famous ceramic centres, the Polish Bolesławiec and the Norwegian Porsgrunn, into one of the certified European Cultural Routes, the European Route of Ceramics, which has been in existence since 2012.
As part of the project, works are planned to give a new cultural function to the disused historic building of the Pückler Palace at Zgorzelecka street in Bolesławiec. The monument will become a place to display the cultural and educational offer, to develop and build a sense of belonging to the local community, to raise awareness of ceramic traditions and to promote cultural heritage on the international stage.
In the historic Pückler Palace there will be workshops, exhibitions, museum lessons, artistic activities, shows and lectures, classes for people with disabilities in the field of creating and decorating ceramics, workshops for children and youth, etc.
The total value of the project is PLN 19 994 046.98 and the amount of the financial assistance that the city receives from the government and the European Economic Area financial mechanism adds up to PLN 15 108 099.97.
Ceramic traditions in Bolesławiec are celebrated with the annual open-air Festival of Ceramics established in 1994, the annual International Ceramics and Sculpture Symposium which takes place since 1996.
