Knowledge is power, and this old adage was confirmed earlier today when the Castilla and Leon Agricultural Ministry signed a collaboration agreement with the prestigious International Cooking School Fernando Pérez in Valladolid, aimed at developing joint educational projects with a view to pulling the local hospitality sector out of the recession slump.
Designing gastronomy courses can strengthen the links between the local agri-food sector and the catering establishments, and all of these together could be better prepared theoretically in dealing with the practical challenges that lie ahead.
The Government had already launched the Tierra de Sabor label for quality regional food products
In essence, the authorities would like for the tourism establishments to becomes effective promoters of everything good and tasty that Castilla and Leon has to offer, given that they are the first line in welcoming domestic and international tourists.
“The School is the ideal partner for the alliances that we want to make with the gastronomic sector and it is because it has the prestige, the means, the experience, the facilities and it knows, and shares, the values behind the brand of the yellow heart,” said Jesús Julio Carnero, the Minister of Agriculture.
The yellow heart he mentioned refers to the Tierra de Sabor logo. Meaning ‘Land of Flavour’ in Spanish, this initiative was launched earlier this year to promote and guarantee the origin and quality of food products made in Castilla and Leon. A logo that can help direct consumers and tourists and give them peace of mind and raise awareness.
The thing is, the Government and the Cooking School had already been collaborating on some courses but what will change is that now this alliance becomes formalized and set in writing.
Local Tierra de Sabor agricultural producers and non-profit organizations will contribute and will be featured in the courses offered by the institution.
