The Mayor of the Year 2017 Anniversary Ceremony will be in October. For the 5th consecutive year, the only media in Bulgaria which monitors the work of all 265 municipalities in Bulgaria – Kmeta.bg, will award the best mayors in the country. The winners will be determined after online voting through the special platform of KMETA.bg – www.kmetnagodinata.bg . Bulgarians from all over the country are voting and expressing their civic position and evaluating the work of the mayors. The platform will be opened for voting on 1st of October and will stop counting votes on October 25th , 2017. The Bulgarian citizens will determine with their vote the best mayors in 10 categories, each selecting a winner for a small, medium and big municipality.
Mayor of the year
Prize for overall activity of the mayor during the year in all spheres of work of the local administration
Mayor of the citizens
Prize for the Mayor, who with his/hers work stays closest to the citizens by quickly hearing their issues and providing resolution for them
Parks and urban environment
Prize for preserving and expanding green systems and turning them into a favorite place for relax
Tourism, culture, festivals and traditions
Prize for the development of municipalities as an attractive tourist destination with numerous initiatives in different directions
Effective project management
Award for project development and fundraising in order to improve the urban environment
Sports and youth policies
Prize for building and renovating sports playgrounds and halls to promote the development of amateur and professional sports
Innovation, science and education
A prize for efforts to implement innovations in children's education
Investments and jobs
Prize for attracting investors and opening new job opportunities
Support for BG producers – farmers' markets in the city
Award for municipalities that encourage regional farmers and the organization of farm markets to expose their goods

Prize for full implementation of new technologies in cities to facilitate citizens and attract tourists
The voting will happen in two phases:
During the first phase (from 1st until 12th of October 2017), all 265 municipalities in Bulgaria will be nominated in all 10 categories.
Voting will be free of charge for all citizens who have access to the Internet and are above 18 years of age.
The second phase of the voting process will start on 13th of October. In 9 of the categories there will be 15 municipalities with the highest number of votes. They will be divided as follows: 5 small, 5 medium and 5 large municipalities in a category. A small municipality is one with a population of 20,000 people, a medium one is with a population of 20,000 to 50,000 people and a large municipality is with population of over 50,000 people.
It is important to emphasize on the fact that the “Mayor of Citizens" category will be open for voting for all 265 municipalities until the very end of the competition – October 25th, 2017.
The Winners who have won the support of citizens in the online voting will be awarded at the jubilee edition of Mayor of the Year 2017 Award Ceremony, which will take place on 27 October (Friday) 2017 in Sofia. It will be broadcasted at the evening by BNT1.
