
Pamporovo is the biggest resort in the Rhodope Mountains. It is located 260 km away from Sofia and 85 km away from Plovdiv. The resort is located at an altitude of 1,650 m. The ski pistes have a total length of 37 km, there are also 13 aerial lifts. Most pistes start from the highest point of the mountain. There are good conditions both for beginner and for experienced skiers.
In the summer of 2017 Pamporovo will host the General Assembly of the Interski Congress. The congress itself will take place in 2019, it is the most important event in winter sports after the Olympics. The International Ski Instructors Association gathers once every four years to exchange good practices. The candidates to host the event included the Russian resort Sochi and the Finish resort Levi, and the fact that Bulgaria was chosen is a recognition for our country. So far 32 nations have confirmed their participation and the governing body of the association includes representatives of Austria, UK, USA, Switzerland and Sweden.
Starting this year, Pamporovo and Chepelare are advertised as one destination. They use a unified ticket and transportation system which is the start of a large scale project aimed at turning the region into a big and attractive sport centre. Every purchased card for the Pamporovo aerial lift also gives access to the Mechi Chal ski zone, and the transport between those two place is provided by means of a ski shuttle buses systems.
