The mineral waters of Kazanlak are blessed by the Nature with healing properties. In combination with the rich cultural and historical heritage their potential is be developed in the field of tourist services.

Known since Turkish times and primitively captured, the spring, situated five kilometers away from Kazanlak,marked the beginning of the famous Kazanlak Thermal Baths, known today as the mineral waters in Ovoshtnik village. The remains of ancient Thracian finds are discovered around the spring, which gives a reason to believe that the mineral water has been known and used since ancient times. During the earthquake in 1928, a new spring gushed out with higher temperature and flow.
The mineral springs were captured in 1934/1935. The flow was low and they were operated by pumping. The drillings made in the 1960s revealed unique high-flow mineral water with extreme concentration of fluoride, temperatures up to 780С and low contents of dissolved minerals.
The new drillings significantly increase the flow of the deposit and allow the use of the mineral water in various aspects. The water from Ovoshtnik is hyper thermal (temperature of 45-780C), fresh (with a total mineralization of 0,451- 0,526 g/l), alkaline (pH 8,07- 8.78), hydro-carbonate-sodium fluoride in composition. The content of metasilicic acid is around and under the curative concentrations (21-52 mg/l). The content of fluoride is very high (24-25 mg/l), as well as the content of arsenic (12-41 mg/l). According to the Cluff classification, the water is classified as “very soft”.
The concentration of fluoride in the mineral water from Ovoshtnik is the highest among the European mineral waters, making it unique throughout Europe as an extremely valuable tool in the fight against socially significant diseases, such as osteoporosis.
In order to develop this natural treasure, Kazanlak Municipality seeks opportunities to apply for EU funding, as well as to acquaint investors with the attractiveness of the mineral water in the region and the opportunities to develop spa tourism. For this purpose a special Ordinance has been issued according stating that all investors who wish to come and invest in our mineral water are offered substantial benefits.
