All initiatives related to ecology and cleaner tourism in Bulgaria should be united in order to have a real impact, claims Boyan Tomov, Executive Director of the Portal of Bulgarian Municipalities Kmeta.bg.
He was the host of the discussion "For Cleaner Sea Tourism", which took place today in Burgas Municipality. Organizers of the event were the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (KRIB) and the Portal of Bulgarian Municipalities Kmeta.bg.
The discussion was attended by the Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova, Krasimir Zhivkov – Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, George Kremlis, Head of the Cohesion Policy and Environmental Impact Assessment Unit in the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Commission, Ivelina Vasileva – Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Water, the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, the District Governor Valcho Cholakov, mayors of municipalities, representatives of the tourism business.
"We need to talk continuously and consistently on the issues related to environment, clean tourism and ecology. Because these topics are extremely important. Waste sorting in restaurants, for example, is a specific step in this direction," commented Boyan Tomov.
According to him, much has been done to ensure cleaner tourism in our country, but there is still a lot of work to do in this direction.
"Thanks to the European funds we are working on the construction of water treatment plants and we are doing our best to have a cleaner sea. But we have to engage the tourism industry in this process. Hotels in resort complexes are well managed, but there are still problems with other places providing accommodation. No one monitors how the owners of rented apartments manage the property," Tomov said.
