Antwerp plan to become a City of Things

The partnership managed by IMEC with the City of Antwerp and the Flemish region is equipping more than 70 locations around the city and its harbour with gateways supporting multiple wireless Internet of Things communication protocols. Thanks to the support from the EU, cities can provide smarter and greener solutions for people and businesses.  

In Antwerp, City of Things the company IMEC – in collaboration with the city of Antwerp and the Flemish government – is building a smart city. The system uses internet to connect physical objects with each other and with people and this is known as the Internet of Things. It will allow citizens, city officials, businesses and academic researchers to respond to urban challenges, such as measuring air quality or preventing floods and fires.
