Bishop Cyprian will conduct a concert in Stara Zagora

The mixed choir – “Saint Sofronii Bishop Vrachanski “in Vratsa diocese will visit Stara Zagora and Kazanlak. This was announced by priest Yordan Karageorgiev, head of the Cultural-Information Center in Stara Zagora’s bishopric. The first concert will be on the 31st of March at 18.30 at the City Art Gallery in Stara Zagora. On the 1st of April is the concert in Kazanlak.

The choir will present chants. Conductor will be Cyprian, the bishop of Stara Zagora. The concert is dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ and is part of the Diocese of Stara Zagora for the big Christian holiday. The choir was founded in 1987 with the blessing of the Vratsa’s Metropolitan bishop Kalinik to honor the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Saint Sofronii Vrachanski.

Since its establishment, the representative choir has performed many concerts at home and abroad. It has been on a tour with concerts in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and Romania. In 2012, concerts were performed in the towns of Crotone and Catanzaro, municipality Calabria, Italy Requiem by Mozart and in 2014 the choir has returned to the Italian scene with concerts in Verona.

The choir was awarded with special awards by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Order of “St. Cyril and Methodius ” second degree and medal” Saint Sofronii Bishop. Vrachanski ” first degree.

The choir is a laureate of the Festival of Russian church song (Sofia, 2002), the International Competition – Singing soul (Bialystok, Poland, 2003), and a winner of the big prize at the International Festival of Orthodox Music Truly Meet – 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2011 in the city of Pomorie.

Conducted by Bishop Kipriyan the choir has won a bronze medal and special prize for best performance of orthodox music at the International Choir Competition in the Greek town of Preveza in 2013 and in 2015 it has added to its many awards a silver and a bronze medal at the European choir games and Grand prix of nations in Magdeburg, Germany.
