The Italian architect, Roberto Rossi has built a house in northern Italy that can rotate 360 degrees. Balanced on a central pillar, the octagonal house can be mechanically rotated in both directions to give its owner varied views. The rotation is also used to direct the house's solar panels towards the sun.
Located near the city of Rimini, the house was constructed by Italian building contractor ProTek. The wood-clad home sits atop a meter-wide pillar base, and can swivel both directions via mechanical control. It’s built to be ultra-lightweight with a steel frame and walls made from wood paneling, so it requires less energy to rotate. The challenge was to keep the building lightweight and to allow it withstand traumas caused by its rotation.
