New anti-COVID measures come into force today in Cyprus

With the 2nd wave of COVID-19 continuing its rampage throughout Cyprus, authorities have decided to further tighten nationwide lockdown restrictions starting today. The new measures that are coming into force will in effect until the end of the year, 31 December, with the ever-present possibility for extension, should the epidemiological situation deteriorate further.

Doing what is necessary to save lives

The new measures that have begun coming into force today, Friday 11 December 2020, were adopted earlier this week by the Government of Cyprus. Initially, the state of emergency and its accompanying measures were meant to last until Sunday, 13 December, but the government’s decision has extended the period and has added new rules to the already long list.

According to the government’s statement, the measures that are coming into force will remain in place at the very least until 31 December, when authorities will once again look at the situation and decide whether new measures are needed or the already enacted ones can be lifted.
