Earlier this week, the Austrian capital of Vienna officially relaunched its city app which brings together a lot of vital information on local developments and happenings. The new and improved version of the Vienna App boasts both an improved design, as well as brand-new functions. It has also been thoroughly revised and updated in order to reflect current events and goings-on.
Essential for every smart city
The new version of the app consists of 4 main panels – information about Vienna, recent news, a map of the urban area and finally, personal information about the user. It also boasts a comprehensive search function, depending on the current location, that takes over many of the functions of the widely used WienBot.
Upon the relaunch, the mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, stated that “We are treading a new digital path. Vienna was the first city administration worldwide with a chatbot. Now we go one step further and integrate it into our new city Vienna app. The WienBot is constantly learning and is currently providing automatic search suggestions on around 1,000 topics – from towing services to current tick vaccinations. This is a smart solution for a smart city.”
The new-and-improved features in the relaunched app cover upgrades to the city map, which now features local bars, shops, and restaurants, the digitization of official communication channels with local authorities, the possibility to apply for permits or parking tickets, and a customizable news feed that provides users with up-to-date information that is relevant to them.
Digitization City Councilor Peter Hanke also pointed to another important detail – namely that the new app has been developed exclusively by local talent – “I am proud of the fact that only Viennese companies were involved in the relaunch of this app. This shows that we have the necessary know-how in our city.”
