
A Bulgarian initiative started in Greece. Very soon a special informative platform will start working through which the citizens of our southern neighbor will be informed on a daily basis about the work of mayors, local authorities and situation in Greek cities and municipalities. An online contest, “Mayor of the Year”, will be organized in Greece, where citizens will assess the work of their mayors.
The new projects were discussed in Athens by the founder of the Bulgarian Portal of Municipalities – Kmeta.bg Boyan Tomov, the President of the Greek Agency for Local Development and Local Government Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, the General Director of the Greek Association of Municipalities Evaggelos Panou, Georges- Stavros Kremlis from the European Commission and the Mayor of The Athenian Amarussian region, George Patoulis. Boyan Tomov presented to his Greek partners the Portal of Bulgarian Municipalities and the “Mayor of the Year” competition which is held annually in Bulgaria. The prestigious award is given each year in several categories and the winners are determined by the Bulgarian citizens through an online survey. The Mayor of the Year Award is among the awards that mayors and local authorities are proud of. Boyan Tomov discussed with Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, Evaggelos Panou, Georges – Stavros Kremlis and George Patoulis the idea of a Mayor of Europe competition. The hosts in Athens have announced that they support such an initiative and believe it will be useful for Europe.
A large delegation from Greece is expected to visit Bulgaria in October for the 5th anniversary of the Portal of Bulgarian Municipalities Kmeta.bg.
