Bolzano, the capital of Italy’s northernmost region of South Tyrol, has opted for the innovative approach: The city is among the world’s first users of Sitraffic One, the revolutionary 1-Watt technology that uses the latest generation of LEDs and special digital. This cuts the energy demand by more than 90% and makes it impossible for a responsible municipality to decide against its introduction. The decision to upgrade Bolzano’s traffic lights gradually to modern LED technology was made even easier by the fact that LEDs offer also significant advantages in terms of road safety.
The modern Sitraffic Scala traffic control center combines 67 controllers and 70 detectors in an integrated system. In future, the neighboring municipalities may be among those profiting from the system: The mobility department of the provincial capital is currently discussing plans to integrate the traffic lights of the nearby villages in their traffic control center.
