Burgas Municipality has added to its fleet two new electric vehicles. The new machines were tested today by deputy mayors Ruska Boyadjieva and Krassimir Stoychev and the chairman of the local parliament Konstantin Lukov.
Much of the car costs were covered not by the municipality’s budget but by an attracted funding from the National Eco Fund. The new vehicles are expected to be used instead of conventional automobiles and this will reduce several tons of harmful emissions annually.
The municipality hopes that more citizens will start to use electric cars in the next few years. Burgas is trying to be an example of their usage. In the city’s blue zone for parking if you want to park your electric car you do not need to pay and as well as this you can charge it with electricity for free. Currently two charging stations can be used – the first one is at the open parking on street “Gurko” and the second one is at the underground parking next to the Opera House, however the municipality is ready to increase their number .
The two new electromobiles are assigned to departments “Environment” and “Crisis management, public order and security”, which have employees who are on the streets every day. With a single charge of the lithium-ion battery, the electric vehicles can travel 212 km. In August this year an electric bus will be tested for the public transport of Burgas.
