The newly renovated Helsinki Olympic Stadium will play host to the main events of the Helsinki Design Week 2020. The event will be carried out between 3 and 13 September and will feature a wide range of topics, including fashion, design and architecture.
In accordance with epidemiological measures and keeping the coronavirus pandemic in mind, the event has also been transformed for this year’s iteration and promises a remote and digital experience that will keep participants and interested attendants safe and healthy – without missing out on any of the action.
A large event in times of pandemic
The annual Helsinki Design Week is taking place during unprecedented times – times that require action and an innovative approach that would allow the whole event to even take place. That’s what makes the Helsinki Olympic Stadium the perfect venue for this year’s iteration of the Design Week.
Not only does the edifice provide an excellent architectural experience but it is also enormous, allowing the organisers to host thousands of attendees without breaking social distancing rules and while keeping all of them safe.
The two main events of the Helsinki Design Week will take place exclusively in and around the Olympic Stadium – namely the Children’s Design Weekend and the widely anticipated PechaKucha Night – the largest of its kind in all of Europe, to be held on 12 September.
Several of the events that make up Design Week will also be going digital in order to accommodate as many people as possible. For example, the Design Market which traditionally attracts more than 20,000 visitors at the Cable Factory, will instead go online and will be present in a number of retail stores between 3 and 5 September.
Meanwhile, the Open Screens series will give all citizens of Helsinki a glimpse of fabulous 3D animations that will be projected on billboards around the city centre.
