Earlier last week the Municipality of Limassol launched a continuous cleaning campaign of the city presenting, at a press conference in the area of Aerial, the new equipment (manual and motorized) with which the Cleaning Department has been strengthened as part of the new initiative.
The campaign will see not only the clean-up of the entire city but will also allow for the maintaining of the high cleanliness standards that have been set by local authorities.
Involving everyone in creating a healthier living space
During the presentation, the mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaidis, pointed out that with this campaign, which bears the slogan “We all take care together for the cleanliness of the city we love”, the Municipality of Limassol aims to substantially improve the urban environment by intensifying and strengthening the municipal hygiene machine.
A key element of the campaign, he stressed, is the activation and cooperation with the citizens, who are called to actively contribute to the cleanliness of their neighbourhood and city. As Nicos Nicolaidis explained, the ongoing “Clean Limassol” campaign consists of a series of parallel actions, including:
- Strengthening the staff of the Municipality in road cleaning
- Replacement of the old and the purchase of new equipment of the Cleaning Department
- The purchase of garbage trucks, large electric sweepers and manual sweepers
- Pressurization for the cleanliness of roads and sidewalks
- Purchase of new waste bins for public spaces
- Subsidies for the purchase of household waste bins
- Installation of large Automatic Mechanical Composters in biological waste production sites
- Installation (within 2021) in selected parts of the city of submersible and semi-submersible bins, compressors and paper compressors, and related equipment
- Commencement (within 2021) of a separate collection program at the source of recyclable and organic waste.
The campaign has been launched with the staunch support of several civic organisations that will also be contributing to the efforts of making and keeping Limassol clean and healthy by including citizens in their joint efforts.
