The Spanish Association against Cancer, together with the 21 public pools in the municipality, are giving a new start to the “Sun without risk” campaign. The start of the campaign was given yesterday and is also supported by the Professional Association of Pharmacists in the Aragonese capital.
10 basic guidelines to avoid skin cancer
The Municipal Government of Zaragoza is also a partner of the “Sun without risk” initiative. The Councillor of Sports, Cristina García, was present at the unveiling of the informational campaign.
The organizers would like to educate the general public on how to reduce and prevent the risk of developing skin cancer, especially in the summer season. To that end, they have developed 10 simple recommendations:
- Avoid sunbathing in the afternoons between 12:00 and 16:00,
- Wear t-shirts, hats and sunglasses,
- Choose sunscreen with a minimum factor of 30 (and apply it on the skin that is covered by a facial mask),
- Apply the sunblock half an hour before sun exposure,
- Rub it extensively over the skin and re-apply it ever 2 to 3 hours,
- Limit sun exposure for children under the age of 3, as well as for seniors and pregnant women,
- Continue using sunblock even after acquiring suntan,
- Use moisturizers after sun exposure, especially those which rehydrate and calm the skin,
- Drink water to keep hydrated. This goes especially for children and seniors,
- Consult a pharmacist if you are taking medication or if you need advice on choose the best-suited sunscreen for you.
These advices will be displayed on posters which pool visitors will see at the installations. Likewise, the campaign is also playing out on the social media of the Municipality of Zaragoza.
This year, the focus is on raising awareness while keeping within the established measures against the spread of COVID-19. For that reason, free sunblock samples and brochures will not be handed out.
