The Rab Film Festival in Croatia, which will take place over the weekend (22 and 23 August) is taking a creative approach to adhering to social distancing measures. Building upon their past experience, organisers will be placing more of the festival’s attendants on boats, thus not only creating safe conditions for the carrying out of the event but also offering a new and once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Social distancing made fun
In Croatia, mass gatherings have been reallowed for some time now, but only if they follow the strict social distancing and hygienic requirements. Thus, organisers and hosts of such events have had to figure out creative ways to ensure that the gatherings can proceed without a hitch while also keeping attendants safe and healthy.
The Rab Film Festival has grown into a great point of pride for the island and it has been gaining steam and popularity. In 2019, during the previous iteration of the event, organisers decided to experiment with having parts of the attendants watch the movies that are being projected from boats located off the coast.
This experiment has now turned into valuable knowledge that will help the hosts in preparing an unforgettable experience that adheres to social distancing rules. The organisers have rented two boats with a capacity of 150 persons each. Taken together, the event’s managers believe that with social distancing guidelines in place, they will be able to accommodate between 80 and 100 people.
Furthermore, with many locals already having their own boats and yachts, they have also been invited to take part in the experience on their own vessels, thus creating a unique atmosphere that might even become a staple even after the coronavirus pandemic has been put behind us.
