Starting from 1st October, an automatic system for the charging of bus passengers will begin operating in the Bulgarian Municipality of Stara Zagora. The innovative measure is implemented through the project “Modernization and development of sustainable urban transport in the city of Stara Zagora – Phase II”, funded by the Operational Program “Growing Regions 2014-2020.
An automatic passenger charging system
At present, there are 3 points for the issuing/activating of ticket products and cards – located at 81 Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd., 1 Ruski Blvd. and in Zheleznik Quarter, 1 Zagorka St. There, residents and guests of Stara Zagora will be able to purchase cards and tickets and recharge their already existing profiles.
There are 3 types of electronic contactless cards. Personalized ones – named cards on which the name and photo of their holder are printed. Impersonal ones – they do not display the name and photo of the owner and low-cost ones – allowing a set number of trips.
Ticket machines have already been installed at 10 stops in Stara Zagora, on which anyone can buy tickets, as well as recharge electronic cards. A ticket or a pack of tickets can also be purchased through the “Transport Stara Zagora” mobile application.
For pensioners, pupils, students and other persons using public transport at a discount, the electronic cards will be personalized with a photo of their user. Such cards will be issued only in the three ticket centers.
In addition, starting on 1 October, 77 ticket machines located in the vehicles themselves will also become available for use, printing the selected ticket in seconds. The machines have touch screens designed to select a fare and purchase a ticket.
The municipality of Stara Zagora clarifies that immediately after boarding the vehicle the passenger must validate his/her card or ticket. By bringing the relevant transport document close to the reader located on one of the validators. As soon as registration is reported, the time of use will be displayed on the monitor of the device.
