The Seville Gluten Free Network was presented on Monday by the Seville City Council. The project promoted by the Health Service aims to create and develop a network of catering establishments that offer gluten-free meals and connect them on a map.
The City of Seville, in cooperation with the Department of Public Health and its Delegation of Social Welfare, Employment and Comprehensive Plans for Social Transformation, presented the program "Network Seville Gluten Free" on the 14th of October. With this campaign, the City Council seeks to raise awareness, stimulate training and promote the creation of a of hotels and establishments which would in turn reveal a facilitates a gastronomic offer adapted to the needs of people with gluten intolerance.
The first four restaurants joining the initiative were present at the launch of the platform. Their representatives signed protocols for accession to the Network, alongisde the municipal delegate for Social Welfare, Employment and Comprehensive Social Transformation Plans of the City Council, Juan Manuel Flores and in the presence of the vice president of the Provincial Association of Celiacs of Seville (Asprocese) Miguel Crespo.
1 out of 100 suffers from gluten intolerance
The support going towards the members of the network is expressed through the providing of information or training of staff and free advice by professionals of the City of Seville. Each member will receive a special badge and the right to promotion and publicity of the establishment through the resources of the City of Seville.
Gluten intolerance is a hereditary disease which is believed to affect one percent of the world population, according to the Celiac Desease Fondation. Al persons living with this condition must adhere strictly to a gluten-free diet.
The main objective of this local action therefore is to improve the quality of life of celiac persons, both citizens and visitors to Sevilla, in terms of accessibility to catering services and thus to contribute to the normalization of their social life.
