The proximity of the Danube River, the unique nature, the rich historical heritage and caring for people are the foundation of the new ideas of the mayor‘s team-charged with enthusiasm, energy and thought about the future development of the town as an attractive and competitive tourist destination.
Priority is given to event tourism, which motivates and unifies organizers, sponsors, businesses,and users in the realization of a unique event and turning it into a sustainable tourist product.
Little is known of the Danube Riveras a destination for recreation and tourism, but with its festivals, celebrations and competitions Tutrakan becomes the Cultural Capital of the Lower Danube.
Each event has its purpose and its meaning.
Festival of Apricot. Traditionally, at the beginning of July, Tutrakan becomes the capital of the apricot.
July morning. Residents and guests of Tutrakan have the opportunity to meet the early July sunshine in the sound of the performances of the great rock singers on the banks of the Danube River.
Fire Danube Festival. Four July days filled with art and colour- performances, concerts (classical, folk, pop, rap and rock music); sports on water; culinary competitions; attractions for the youngest guests of the festival – the children; lighting, sound and laser show over the water, and many more surprises that bring at one place thousands of visitors from the town, country and abroad to enjoy the charm of the festival.
In these days, The River Painting Workshop is held in Tutrakan and involves famous Bulgarian artists.
River Notes International Competition. In August Tutrakan is an international center of musical performance. At the banks of the Danube River,on open stages, children from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Izrael, Kazahstan, Greece, and Italy meet each other. With the talent and youth of the participants and their performances the festival days turn into a real celebration for the town.
And some more: Vinaria, Dobrudzha mummers, The Festival of Polenta, St. Nicholas’ Day.
Guests of Tutrakan have the opportunity to visit cultural and historical landmarks and experience the unique atmosphere and charm ofthe fishermen’s village.
The only fishermen’s villagein the country, naturally differentiated along the river,is in Tutrakan. With its originality, cleanness and revival spirit the Fishermen’s Neighborhood Architectural Complex has been preserved for the future generations in its authentic form with fishing nets, boat workshops and fishers’ houses.
The Ethnographic Museum “Danubian Fishing and Boat Construction” is the only one in the countries along the river. It was established to preserve the rich material and spiritual culture, social structure and lifestyle of the Bulgarians from the Danube fishing villages.
