Earlier this week, representatives of the Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and the Zadar Port Authorities signed a contract that would kickstart the “Reconstruction of the Coast of Petar Krešimir IV” project. More commonly referred to as the reconstruction of the Zadar waterfront, it is vital to the city’s future development and its economic growth.
Cooperation to the benefit of the citizens of Zadar
The agreement signed by the institutions represents yet another key step towards the city’s development. During the signing ceremony State Secretary at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Josip Bilaver stated that “In the past four years, we have signed a total of 103 contracts in the transport sector that are financed with European funds, but I must admit that this is my favourite contract so far. Zadar’s waterfront has always been a symbol of Zadar and as such, it deserves to shine in full glory. This contract is not the only one and it should be said that the Government has invested more than three billion kuna in Zadar County in this mandate. “
Upon completion, the project would have completely redone the outlook of the Zadar waterfront, returning it to its past glory and giving it a well-deserved makeover that will also allow for easier long-term maintenance. Work on the project will encompass the areas between the Zadar bridge and the “Greeting to the Sun” and from there – all the way to the University building.
The entire project is worth some 75 million kuna with 85% of them coming from EU’s Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Cohesion” and the rest will be taken straight out of Croatia’s state budget. Authorities are eager to point out that the area’s signature characteristics will not be changed and will be taken into account during construction.
