The transportation of perishable goods is a delicate and complex process which leaves little room for errors. That is why, for companies involved in the logistics sector it is important to know the condition of their vehicles. There is a solution, which comes under the form of a tunnel called climatic testing station, and the first one of its kind in all of Spain was officially launched in the Aragonese capital of Zaragoza.
The high-tech device, located at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza), is able to create different weather conditions with temperature ranges from 20 degrees below zero to plus 50 degrees Celsius and thus recreate a variety of climatic conditions that can be challenging to transportation.

The station is operated by the CETEMET (Metalworking and Transport Technology Center), a research and development space, which has dedicated 600 m2 for the tunnel plus offices, tool storage, and parking spaces. It will be available to companies that want to test the performance and resilience of their vehicles.
“The new CETEMET Testing Station is a great instrument in the development of the cold chain, fundamental in the logistics of basic sectors for the growth of Aragon and the entire Ebro valley. The new Station offers a flexible calendar to carry out trials throughout the year and includes remote monitoring and independent meeting rooms for clients,” said Marta Gastón, Minister of Economy in the regional government.
Apart from the wide range of temperature settings, the 30-metre long tunnel is capable of reproducing levels of air humidity between 20% and 70%. And there is more – it is also equipped to produce snowfall, blizzards and ice sheets. Trucks, but also railway vehicles can enter the tunnel, since it is also equipped with tracks.
